Do you want to represent the HSU on a Super Board?

The HSU National Executive is seeking nominations from HSU members living in either New South Wales or Victoria to fill a vacant position of Member Representative Director on the First State Super (FSS) Board.

Applications for the position are invited from financial members of the HSU residing in New South Wales or Victoria who have some (not necessarily all) of the skills and experience listed below:


  • Fund Policy - an understanding of the regulatory requirements which apply to superannuation funds and matters relating to the determination of policies and procedures of individual funds;
  • Legal - A legal qualification or relevant legal experience
  • Financial - An ability to interpret financial data
  • Investment - an ability to understand investment strategies and to particupate in the determination and review of investment strategies
  • Operational - A knowledge of procedural aspects of the FSS business including scheme administration, custody, group insurances for members
  • Complaints Resolution - A knowledge of and/or experience with, dealing with member/employee complaints and of related appeal procedures
  • Business Knowledge - Commercial insight and judgement
  • Strategy and Planning - A demonstrated capacity to think and plan strategically as well as the capacity to set and monitor goals and objectives
  • Defined Benefits - An understanding of the specific risks and operational features of the defined benefits obligations of the Fund.

All new Directors will undergo an induction process and ongoing training.

A copy of the FSS Fitness and Propriety Policy is available on request by calling Mark McLeay on the number below.

Expenses incurred travelling to Board meetings will be met by the fund and depending on the nominees employment arrangements.

The policy of the HSU is that the fees of superannuation fund Directors who are nominated by the HSU and who are employees of the HSU (for example, elected officials) will be paid to the relevant HSU Branch or the National Office.

Where a HSU nominated Director is an employee of a Health Service (for example) arrangements may need to be made to take leave without pay from the employing organisation.

In this case the some or all of the Director's fees would be paid to the Director.

Nominees cannot already be a Director of another superannuation fund.

If you wish to be considered to fill the vacant position of Member Representative Director on the First State Super (FSS) Board then you will need to provide the following:
  • An up-to-date Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • A statement outlining why you think you are suited to the position and what skills and experience you will bring to the role
