National Equal Pay Rally
07 June 2010
Thousands of equal pay supporters will rally across the country at 11am this Thursday June 10 to take part in Australia's biggest equal pay march since the 1970s.
The national rally, taking place in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin and many regional areas is being organised by the disability and community sector Unions.
They will be rallying in support of our equal pay test case to address lower pay among female-dominated community sector workers, the professionals that all Australians rely on in times of individual or community crisis.
Women in full time paid work still earn 18 per cent less on average than men, which equates to $1 million less over a lifetime.
HSU Assistant National Secretary Natalie Bradbury said, "This week's action around the nation will be a clear demonstration that the battle for pay equity is far from over.
"Women deserve equal pay for equal work and we urge members to get behind the campaign and take a stand for equal pay and come to a rally on June 10," she said.
