Students' Investigate The Job Scene And Win

28 August 2006

What do students need to know before starting their first job or a new job? How ready are students to deal with the new workplace laws? How will students know of they are getting the tight pay or even fair pay under the new laws?

Answering these and other questions about work is the aim of the latest ACTU Worksite for Schools competition for students.

The competition asks students to be job scene investigators by interviewing a freind or family members about thier job.

Students use the 'evidence' they gather from the 'witness' to uncover the imortant 'clues' that young people need to know before starting a new job.

Research conducted by Education Image suggest that family and freinds are the most imortant source of work rights information for young workers.

By interviewing family and friends about work, students will uncover important 'clues' like health and saftey, award wages, training and hours.

Students should enter before 29 September for a chance to win an IPod nano.

Students can get clues for thier entry and a competition cover sheet from www.worksite.actu.asn.au or call 1800 620 362
