New report shows union wage agreements higher04 November 2004Further evidence has emerged that union members earn more than those who try to negotiate alone. The latest report from the workplace research and training organisation ACIRRT, shows the average annual wage rate for union-negotiated deals was 5.1 per cent. For non-union agreements the figure was 3.4 per cent. HSU national secretary Craig Thomson said the statistics were the latest in a long list that showed that union members were better off. "If you negotiate your wages as part of a union you are going to get more money," Mr Thomson said. "That is clearly established. Australian Bureau of Statistics figures show union members have better work entitlements, enjoy longer leave and are better trained. "Union membership has a lot of benefits and for people working in the health industry the HSU is the union they should join." |
