HSU Members Urged to Support Child Care Campaign

06 May 2004

HSU members and other healthworkers concerned about childcare can now get involved in a campaign designed to make politicians realise exactly what is going on in the industry.

HSU national secretary Craig Thomson said the campaign to get a better deal for child care workers had direct parallels with the union's own aged care campaign.

"Caring for young children and the elderly are two of the most important jobs in society and yet the people who do them are often paid less than checkout operators," Mr Thomson said.

"It is not fair on the people being cared for and it is not fair on the staff who have to work for love not money."

The child care campaign is being run by the union which covers the area, the LHMU.

Members and healthworkers who wish to join in and send an email to the Treasurer Peter Costello before next Tuesday's federal budget can do so by
