Medicare rally this Friday in Melbourne

01 September 2003

Members of the Health Services Union and people concerned about the future of Medicare are encouraged to attend a protest rally in Melbourne this Friday.

The rally will take place outside the State Library on the corner of Swanston and Latrobe streets from 5.30pm.

Church and community groups, doctors and unions will be among those represented at the rally which has been organised by a coalition of organisations concerned about attempts by the Federal Government to run down Medicare.

The Health Services Union national secretary Craig Thomson said the rally was another opportunity for health workers to show their concern about the state of Medicare.

Members of the union will attend and collect signatures on giant Medicare card petitions which are being filled out around the country.
The petitions will be presented to the Health Minister Kay Patterson on October 22.
