Western Australians are expected to go to the polls early next year.Read why HSU state secretary Dan Hill believes the election will be critical for everybody who work in health and for those who use health services.

Message from Dan Hill:

"The Federal Election saw the return of a strengthened Howard Government with majorities in both Houses of Parliament.

Many now see the 2005 State Election in Western Australia as the most important in a generation, one which will determine the future course of the State for years to come.

The HSU in Western Australia is not affiliated to any political party.

The aim of the HSU is : "To protect and further the interests of its members by any lawful means."

The purpose of this campaign is to make sure the major parties make health their number one priority and to provide information and analyses of the Labor and Coalition parties policies in the lead-up to the ballot.

In the lead-up to the election the HSU will ask the major parties for details of their policies in:

  • Health;
  • Industrial Relations;
  • Community and disability services;

The HSU will analyse the policies and provide assessments of the likely impacts, taking into account the recent experiences of living under both State Labor and Coalition Governments.

Members are also being asked for their views so the union can make sure both sides of politics are addressing the issues of concerns to members.

The HSU has completed a survey of members with over 600 responses received from a broad cross section including senior managers, health professionals, technicians, clerks, and supervisors.

The results of the survey will be posted on this website.

In addition to specific questions about health, the HSU asked members to prioritise their broader election issues, such as law and order, education, state taxes. The HSU will also take up these issues of concern for members.

I encourage you to tell your friends and colleagues about this website, and to provide feedback to us about how useful you find the information.

If there are questions you would like us to ask the politicians just email us and we will find out.

If you would like to be involved in the HSU campaign please contact the HSU Office on (08) 9328 5155 or email.

Let's make sure the politicians take notice of the important election issues for you."
