Home Campaigns Put Health First Resources
Campaign message from the HSU
The upcoming federal election is a critical one for all people working in healthcare in Australia. So much needs to be done to relieve the pressure on our hospitals and staff who are struggling to deal with growing demand especially for emergency services. One of the reason for that is that it has become harder not easier to find a doctor who bulk bills or provides after hours services. We also need something done about the shortages of healthcare staff, particularly allied health professionals, which is affecting vital services and the constant fighting between the states and the federal government over who has responsibility for which sections of healthcare funding. The disgraceful situation where we have more than 500,000 people waiting for dental care, many of them elderly also needs to be fixed. And let's not forget about aged care. Thousands of people can't find a bed and our members report across the country that the staffing and pay crisis is getting worse not better. How is it that we have a situation where there are no minimum staffing levels in any facilities to ensure that there is a basic guarantee of care and security for elderly Australians?
Our ResponsibilityAs people working in the health industry we have a responsibility to ensure health is the number one issue at the election. Politicians and all voters need to know that something needs to be done to fix the health system now In other words people should Put Health First.
