Kalgoorlie Hospital upgrade

23 February 2005

A $30 million upgrade of the Kalgoorlie Regional Hospital has been promised by the Gallop government.

Health Minister Jim McGinty said although the hospital was currently in good condition, improvements were
needed to upgrade it to a Regional Resource Centre as recommended in the Reid Report.

"The first priority of the hospital redevelopment will be to expand and refurbish the emergency department,"
Mr McGinty said.

"Ambulance and patient access to the emergency department will be improved and the number of observation and treatment beds will be increased."

The Health Minister said the redevelopment would include the construction of a new day surgery unit with recovery rooms next to the existing theatre area.

Work on the $30million upgrade to the hospital is scheduled to begin in 2008.
