Heart specialists criticise Opposition hospital plan

13 January 2005

A group of heart specialists at Fremantle hospital have described the Coalition's hospital plan as a disgrace.

The five sent a letter to Opposition Leader Colin Barnett to express their opposition to the proposal to downgrade Fremantle Hospital.

"You are asking the community to vote for you but you are telling us that you will remove specialist teaching hospital services south of the river and downgrade Fremantle Hospital," they stated.

"Top level services for heart disases can only be delivered in a specialist teaching hospital. The cardiac unit (at Fremantle) could not survive in the downgraded hospital of 200 beds that you propose."
