Medicare Under Threat

Australia's universal health care system, Medicare, is under threat from under-funding and changes proposed by the Federal Government which would see bulk-billing confined to pensioners and concession card holders. Families would have to pay more to see a doctor every time they visited.

Those who can't afford to pay will head to public hospitals which are already suffering from rapidly increasing workloads. The union which represents all healthworkers, the HSUA, is at the forefront of the campaign to stop these unfair changes to Medicare.

Union members are also involved in the fight to get more funding for public hospitals given to the states by the Federal Government.

Everybody who cares about the state of the health system in Australia should get involved in the campaign.
